Shop policy faq
Thanks for stopping in, we’re not here to police or micromanage
But we do have some guidelines and a few rules.
-Should I be on time?
Yes, you should. We consider “on time” arriving five minutes prior to the start of your shift, allowing you time to settle in, place personal items away, changing if need be and ready to clock in at your scheduled time.
We know life happens- traffic, couldn’t find your favorite coffee mug, etc. Reach out in the team chat to keep everyone in the loop if your going to be a few minutes behind, and don’t make a habit out of it.
-Can I clock in early?
Keep it to five minutes max before your shift starts.
What should I wear?
Presentation matters, we like to keep in mind the phrase “you eat with your eyes first” and try to bring that approach to the entire shop, including our attire. When we dress for the work day we decide what the first impression our guests have when they walk in the door, make it nice, you’re representing the business and yourself. You have the freedom to decide what you would like to wear daily, as long as we mind a few guidelines, and keep things professional:
Your shirt, needs to be clean and have a collar. Whether its a short sleeved button up, a polo, or even a flannel (great for the cold room), is up to you. Goodwill is a great place to score some threads you don’t mind putting a little wear and tear on.
Pants are required, although you’d think this goes without saying we need to wear pants. Jeans are acceptable as are slacks or khaki, its up to you what feels most comfortable, as long as they are clean and without major holes or tears. Although it gets cray hot in the summer, we work in either an air conditioned shop or an even colder walk in, save your shorts for a day off. Shorts are not allowed in the shop.
Close toed, nonslip shoes - required. The floors can get slick during a shift, lets take care of ourselves and our feet. Wear a comfortable pair of nonslip shoes or boots, some people may choose to wear steel toed boots for even greater saftey (we deal with some heavy things in the shop)
Hats - Nothing ruins a meal faster than the discovery of a mystery piece of hair in your food, that’s why we wear a hat. Preferably an AMM hat or one from one of our partner producers or suppliers. A plain beanie is a good choice too for the cooler months or working in the cooler.
In short, the ideal look for work is neat, clean, professional and with an eye toward saftey.
Apron or no apron?
Your call. But if you do wear one, make sure its clean. Generally an apron should be worn during any kind of production/cutting, it will help keep the rest of you clean.
What do you consider good hygiene?
Well groomed, fingernails clean and trimmed short, a clean uniform and apron. We work in a beautiful, clean shop, lets take pride in that fact and in our appearance; remember “you eat with your eyes first”
When does the schedule come out?
Monthly schedules are released the third week of each month.
Can I ask for vacation time?
Of course, but give us plenty of time and understand not all requests will be approved. The more advance in notice, the more likely you’re request will be approved.
When do we get paid?
Direct deposits will find your account every Tuesday at Midnight.
What’s up with tipping?
Tipping is pooled and divided equally amongst the team, we are all in this together, this includes cash tips. If you find yourself in a position where a guest passes you a cash tip, say for carrying their groceries out to the car, add it to the team tip jar. We are on the honor system here and you would want your teammates to do the same if they were in your shoes. Tips are distributed at the end of month.
Should I come to work high and/or bring drugs with me?
No, no you should not. Arizona is a recreational state for marijuana, but keep your personal time separate from work, you can wait until you are home.
I’m a bit thirsty, can I enjoy a beer?
No, you may not. While you are welcome to use your employee discount to purchase beer, we do not drink in the shop. Tasting wine/beer/beverage sample offerings from a vendor is a different story when we do it professionally as a team. Again, keep your personal time separate from work, and don’t over indulge the night before work, nobody likes to be on shift with someone that’s hungover.
Can I use my cellphone during work hours?
We get it, sometimes you need to communicate with the outside world. Sometimes you might need to look up a recipe or anything else the google world provides for work purposes or not. Keep it necessary. If it seems like you spend too much time on your phone, expect another employee to say something. If you find someone else spending too much time on their phone, speak up politely.
Can we eat on the job?
Of course, we are a butcher shop and surrounded by food. Use your best judgement to find an appropriate time to cook and eat, and be sure to make a lil’ something for everyone.
Do we get shift breaks?
Absolutely. Use your judgement to determine a good time for a break. Be sure to let the team lead know your taking a break.
Do we get discounts on food or drink?
Yes. 30% off all food and beverage. Use your best judgment based on current inventory.
There will occasionally be extra goodies that come available to us as well.
What do I do if I’m sick?
Stay home, rest, stay home, stay hydrated, stay home and stay in close communication with the shop lead on a daily basis.
Stay the f. home.
What happens if a customer is a complete ass? {demeaning, Bullying, harassing, etc. to customers or employees}
We have the right to refuse business to anyone we see fit. This right is not to be taken lightly. Use your best judgement and apply only when necessary. If unsure, consult with co-workers to reach appropriate course of action.
What are some things that are grounds for immediate termination?
Any & all forms of: sexual harassment, discrimination, bullying & prejudice, Theft, violence, or any other illegal activity . And when we say immediate, we mean immediate.
